Personalised Milk Tooth Box: A perfect present for any child

Buying a milk tooth box

Most children get excited when their milk teeth start wobbling: although they sometimes worry about feeling pain, they also look forward to experiencing a new stage in their life. Because when they start losing teeth, small children quickly realise that they are growing up and changing. For every new adult tooth, they get a little bit closer to being like their “role models” – mostly mum and dad. With this personalised milk tooth box, you can keep your child’s first teeth as a special keepsake of their growing up.

Interesting questions and answers about milk teeth and their storage

A child's dentition has a total of 20 milk teeth. There are 10 in the upper jaw and 10 in the lower jaw: 4 milk incisors, 2 milk canine teeth and 4 milk cheek teeth.

Milk teeth usually fall out between the ages of 4 and 12. The milk incisors are usually the first to fall out. You can read more about this below.

You can buy milk tooth canisters in stationary trade, for example in drugstores or in baby specialist shops. Online, you will find an equally large selection of tins, conveniently delivered to your doorstep.
Schnullerkettenladen’s wooden milk tooth cans will not only delight you with various cute motifs and colours. They are also labelled in many different languages and thanks to a notch, you can decorate them with a homemade milk tooth canister chain.

When do milk teeth fall out?

There is no single-word answer to this. Whilst some children lose their first milk teeth aged four, others’ teeth will not budge until they are seven. Milk teeth are lost over a total period of six or more years, so that the last milk teeth fall out at the age of 13 or 14 years.

Premature loss of milk teeth and milk teeth not falling out - Causes?

Premature loss of milk teeth can be a cause for concern because the first large molar – referred to by specialists as a six-year molar – then grows forward, restricting space for teeth erupting later. Causes of premature tooth loss include lack of proper dental care and excessive consumption of sugary foods. Physical accidents can also cause tooth loss. However, other cases can show the reverse problem: In some children, the milk teeth do not fall out because no adult teeth are growing to take their place. This is a matter for the dentist, and dentures may be needed at some point.

Why should you keep milk teeth?

Altogether, your child has 20 milk teeth - and some go missing without them even noticing. But some can certainly be caught and kept, which might be a good idea. Your child then has fond memories when they get out their own first teeth to look at again. Unlike a photo, a tooth makes the memory truly tangible. Moreover, your child could show their milk teeth to their own children later and so maybe take away their fear of losing their first teeth. Naturally, most children get excited when their first teeth start wobbling.

Another good reason for keeping milk teeth is that have a potential medical use: the inside of a milk tooth contains valuable tooth pulp harbouring stem cells. Medical professionals today believe that these stem cells can later fulfil important functions. Although it is not yet possible to harness the practical use of these cells, researchers are working towards this at full pace. In a few years, it might become possible to use stem cells in muscle tissue or joints – then the milk teeth could even help your child recover after severe illness.

What should you watch for when your child brushes their milk teeth?

Cleaning milk teeth

Some people believe that milk teeth need not be cleaned carefully. Their reasoning is simple: because milk teeth are replaced later by permanent adult teeth anyway, milk teeth are not used on a long-term scale. However, experts contest this view. Firstly, milk teeth should be used for as long as possible, so that the following adult teeth replace them a little later – experience shows that most people need dentures anyway at some point. Secondly, it should not be forgotten that a child can be taught the importance of careful dental care from an early age and so keep their teeth in good condition for more of their lifetime. Furthermore, milk teeth are more susceptible to tooth decay because they have softer enamel. This must be compensated for by especially careful dental care.

Dental care can initially turn out short in children because there are fewer teeth and your little one will have less patience. At first, circular movements with the brush are not possible because of your child’s small mouth. Instead, they should clean their teeth with forward and backward movements. The rule "from red to white", i.e. cleaning from the gums to the enamel, applies here too. It is important to use a toothpaste with no more than 500 ppm fluoride. This quantity is stated on the tube; the best choice is then a fun-themed children’s toothpaste.
