Packing your hospital bag properly

Packing Hospital Bag

When should I start packing my hospital bag?

As you get closer to the birth date, you will be filled with growing anticipation - and, of course, excitement for the baby. So that everything runs smoothly and without unnecessary stress on the day of the big event, you should pack your hospital bag weeks early - about 4-6 weeks before the expected date. But what should go in your hospital bag, what should you leave out?

In most cases, childbirth means staying in the hospital for several days. In addition to the things you will need for the birth, it is also important to pack anything that you might want in the days that follow to relax and pass the time. In addition, a small basic kit for your newcomer would not go amiss. Once you are well packed, you can relax and look forward to the birth.

The hospital bag - do not forget it!

As is often the case with important events, a number of documents are required for the birth, such as your family register or your own birth certificate. Locate these documents in time, and pack them into your hospital bag. Your maternity card, ID, and health insurance card are usually in your wallet, so you should also pack this when the time comes.

It may be several hours between your first contraction and the actual birth of the baby, during which time you could, for example, read a good book or listen to the radio. This would mean that, at least in the first few hours, you are distracted from the pain. Furthermore, it is advisable to take something small to eat and drink for you and your partner.

  • Massage oil
  • Maternity card
  • ID card
  • Family register or mother's birth certificate
  • Health insurance card
  • Snacks for the expectant parents
  • Drinks
  • Camera for the first baby photo
  • Books, etc., to fight boredom

You can decide for yourself how long you want to stay in the hospital after your birth, provided everything goes well. While some new mothers leave the hospital after only a few hours, others enjoy a few weeks in the care of the attentive doctors and nurses to prepare themselves for their new role as a mother.

Regardless of which option you choose, you should take some pieces of clothing as a precaution if your stay is surprisingly longer than planned. Even if you are planning a home birth, it is still useful to have a bag ready in case you need to go to the hospital for treatment.

In the first hours and days after your arrival, your little darling also needs some paraphernalia, such as a bodysuit or romper suit, socks and a dummy with a matching dummy chain. It is advisable to thoroughly wash the baby clothes, whether new or used, before you put them in the bag.

Also remember that you need a suitable baby seat for your car when you travel home, in which you can safely place your baby. Depending on the season, you should also cover the little human with a warm jacket and a hat.

Dummy + Dummy chain - A must-have for your baby

Hospital Bag - Dummy chain

Each child has a natural sucking reflex, which primarily serves for instinctive food intake. At the same time, however, soothing hormones are released, which make the baby sleep more easily and have a positive effect on digestion. The suction is also essential for the development of the dentition since it forms the jaw and strengthens the muscles. A dummy is therefore the perfect solution to satisfy the suckling reflex between breastfeeding with an adequate substitute. Babies often let the dummy simply fall carelessly if they don't want to suck anymore. A suitable dummy chain prevents the dummy from falling on the ground. You can customise the chain yourself with the wide selection of accessories from our shop. Choose between coloured wooden beads, cute motif beads, various shapes made of silicone, small bells and alphabet cubes and much more. Design a personalised dummy chain for your little one.

With a handy clip, which you can also get in different designs, you can attach the dummy chain to your child's clothes. This ensures that the dummy is always close to the baby, clean, and ready to be used. All our products are sweat and saliva resistant, colourless and free from harmful substances. They can therefore be used without any worries.
